My story

My Background

My name is Todd Gerson and I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington state. I love what I do. Early on in my life, I became interested in therapy. After first receiving my undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Michigan, I continued at the University of Michigan to pursue my master’s degree in social work with a clinical emphasis. Fortunately, I was accepted in to a scholarship program called the Detroit Clinical Scholarship Program. As part of the Detroit Clinical Scholarship program, I gained invaluable training working with children, adolescents, groups, and families in the Metro Detroit area. Witnessing the outcomes of how sharing insights and supporting my truly helped and changed my clients’ lives, further strengthened my ambitions to continue to gain more professional experiences and learn ways to best provide and empower my clients.

Following my education, I  worked at a non-profit agency in the Metro Detroit area, providing group therapy to adults and adolescents with mental health and behavioral health challenges. My work in Detroit left me with a strong foundation in understanding in how to address trauma, substance use, and mental health challenges. In Seeking experiences to push my professional knowledge and experience, I made my way to Washington state to take a role as a child and family therapist for a non-profit agency. My role was specifically working with adolescents, young adults, and their families, suffering from various challenges including depression, anxiety, trauma, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, and family issues. I continued in a similar role in Denver, Colorado, before making my way back to Washington to begin my own practice.
